Five Hidden Villages Along the Amalfi Coast Worth Exploring

Everyone knows about Positano and Amalfi, but the coast has plenty of quieter places that deserve attention. If you want to escape the crowds and experience a more relaxed side of the region, add these five villages to your list.


1. Atrani

Atrani is only a short walk from Amalfi, but it feels like a different world. Its narrow lanes twist between closely packed houses before opening onto a small square near the beach.


Grab a coffee, explore the stairways and watch everyday village life unfold around you. It’s a simple place, but that is exactly what makes it special.


2. Cetara

Cetara is a small fishing village where colourful boats fill the harbour and seafood remains an important part of local life.


It is best known for colatura di alici, a salty anchovy sauce usually served with pasta. Even if you’re only visiting for a few hours, take time to walk along the waterfront and enjoy the slower pace.


3. Minori

Minori is a great choice if you enjoy history, food and peaceful seaside walks. The village is home to the remains of a Roman seaside villa, offering an interesting look at life in the area centuries ago.


After visiting the ruins, wander through the centre or stop at a local bakery. Minori is small enough to explore without rushing, making it an easy and enjoyable day trip.


4. Scala

For a break from the busy coastline, head uphill to Scala. Surrounded by terraced slopes and green mountains, the village offers beautiful views across the valley toward Ravello.


Scala is spread across several small neighbourhoods, so it feels more rural than many coastal towns. It’s especially worth visiting if you enjoy quiet streets, old churches and scenic walks.


5. Tramonti

Tramonti sits between the mountains above the coast. Instead of one busy centre, it is made up of several small hamlets scattered among lemon groves, forests and farmland.


It takes a little more planning to visit, but the peaceful surroundings make the effort worthwhile. Tramonti gives you a chance to see a side of the Amalfi Coast that many travellers completely miss.


Take the Quieter Route

Atrani, Cetara, Minori, Scala and Tramonti may not receive as much attention as Positano or Amalfi, but that is part of their appeal. Each village has its own character, and together they show that there is much more to this coastline than its famous postcard views.
